A brief Review Of Playstation 3′s Star Ocean – Finally Released!

The Star Ocean franchise has been around for a while now, and is still a quietly successful alternative to the more famous JRPGs out there. In 2009 the Xbox 360 was treated to the latest installment within the series; Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope. The title was well received, however a Playstation release was nowhere to be seen. Now, at last, gamers can purchase Playstation 3′s Star Ocean.

The release of this version isn’t a direct port, but instead is named the ‘international’ edition, and features some small extras. Firstly, the initial Japanese vocal track has been included as an option. This is often a popular extra for those who prefer their JRPGs with a little more authenticity. Additionally, gamers can toggle the HUD show to reveal the initial Japanese design for characters. Not a massive extra, but nice nonetheless.

Now the game itself, and Playstation 3′s Star Ocean can not disappoint. The title expands the fighting system of earlier entries within the franchise, providing a straightforward but fun attack approach that is systematically levelled up as time goes on. New features such as the Rush gauge add a brand new take on the combat, rewarding quick handed gamers with additional advantages.

The plot that runs throughout Playstation 3′s Star Ocean is typically grand, as one would expect from producers Square Enix. A great feature is the optional Private Actions, which allows players to interact among their characters to realize a deeper sense of character development. This may not be essential to the plot, but is great for players wanting to completely immerse themselves with the characters.

It may have taken a long time, however Playstation 3′s Star Ocean is definitely worth the wait. The visuals, whilst maybe less than Final Fantasy standards, are still lovely and also the plot can reward you the more you put into it. Any followers of the genre should definitely look into this brilliant title.
